Do you provide free estimates?
Yes. When you contact us concerning a renovation project, our estimator will look at your property and provide you with a comprehensive written proposal so that you can make an informed decision. If you have questions or concerns, we will work with you to answer any questions before you sign an agreement of sale, in order to avoid any surprises after construction has started.

What if I'm not sure of the renovations I want?
In some cases, especially for large renovation projects, you may have a general idea of what you would like but may be unsure of whether it would be strucurally sound or asthetically pleasing. Our estimators can advise you on different options that will provide the best solution for your particular needs. We can also provide different options in your proposal so that you can make the best decision for your situation.

Do you require a deposit before a job is started?
Yes, we require a deposit and a signed agreement of sale prior to starting any work. The amount of the deposit can vary depending on the size of the job, but is generally one third of the proposed price. For larger projects, we may set up a draw schedule with you or your financial institution. The payment schedule and terms will always be clearly outlined in the contract.

What should I expect during the construction process?
We realize that any renovations to your home or business can be disruptive. Rest assured that during the construction process, our crews will do their best to minimize the disruption to you, and will always treat your property with the utmost respect. Should you have any questions or concerns while the work is underway, you may contact our office at any time.

If, during the construction process, you would like to make modifications to the scope of work, we will work with you to make the necessary changes. We do require a signed change order for any significant modifications to the job after work has been started. This is to ensure that there are no surprises for either party once the work is complete.

What happens after I report an insurance claim?
In many cases, insurance companies refer claims directly to First General, and you will not need to do anything. In other cases, your insurance company may refer our services, and you would be responsible to contact us yourself. Regardless of how we receive your claim, our estimator will get in touch with you promptly to come review the damage to your property. Will I owe any money out of pocket?
When you select First General for your insurance repairs, generally the only cost to you is the amount of your insurance deductible. However, any repairs that are not covered by your insurance policy would be your responsibility to pay for.

We require a signed agreement of sale and receipt of your deductible prior to starting any repair work (emergency services do not require any money up front, but depending on your insurance policy, you may still be required to pay your deductible).

Depending on your insurance company, payment for final repairs may be issued directly to First General, and you would not have any additional out of pocket expenses. In other cases, your insurance company may issue payment to you, and First General would then invoice you for the repairs.

What should I expect during the repair process?
Once we receive a signed agreement of sale and your insurance deductible, our production manager will contact you to schedule the repairs. During the repair process, our crews will do their best to minimize the disruption to your home or business, and will always treat your property with the utmost respect. Should you have any questions or concerns while the work is underway, you may contact our office at any time.

If, during the repair process, additional damage is discovered or any other changes need to be made, we will provide a revised estimate to your insurance company for approval. Any repairs that are not covered by your insurance policy would be your responsibility to pay for.

When your repairs are completed, you will need to sign off on the work to satisfy insurance requirements.
